Rain or Shine

Please note the umbrellas in the above picture which was taken at Toros a la Tica. It was clearly not raining. We saw this occurrence at El Tope as well – an umbrella here is an all-weather accessory: keeping you somewhat dry when it rains, and keeping you in the shade when the sun is beating down. Wes told me that here only black umbrellas are called “paraguas” (literally: for waters, i.e. umbrella), any other colour and it is a “sombrilla” (from sombra meaning shade). Of course, the colour is irrelevant because both sombrillas and paraguas can be used for either purpose.
